Geert Away With You

The old double standard (see Mutual Respect, below) swings into action again as Geert Wilders is refused entry to the UK, on grounds very similar to those used to justify the (failed) police action against Channel 4 over Undercover Mosque. So let's get this straight, to avoid further confusion. Here are the rules: If you're a Muslim preacher calling for the death, or at the very least persecution, of homosexuals and Jews, you're welcome - you might even (under Cuddly Ken) get an audience with the Mayor of London. If you have filmed said preachers making these remarks, you're the one who's inciting hatred and violence and you must be acted against. Is that clear? Good. Meanwhile, Wilders should be prosectued for crimes against hair.

  1. You posted this morning Nige and just now c/o R4 I heard Wilders was stopped at Heathrow, and will be returned whence he came. So let's get this straight, to borrow your phrase (but mine is spittle-flecked) - if you happen to be an actual terrorist, although you will not be welcomed here, it is pretty easy to set-up shop and go about your business. If you are anti-Islam and anti-terror, and you broadcast the fact, you will not be welcome here, because of your views. Yes, I think I have it now.

  2. Yep that's it Mahlerman, you've got it - and if it also involves causing considerable offence to one of our oldest allies and one of the most civilised countries in Europe, and riding roughshod over the commonly understood rights and liberties of parliamentarians, so be it.

  3. This goes into some detail from our European allies. It is noteworthy that our homesec, Dennis the Menace has his five pennyworth in again, the talk in Germany at the moment is of Britain as a nation of sheep led by hyenas.

  4. The next stage will be that to discuss such matters at all will be a crime, and you will be immediately shipped to a CIA prison in Eastern Europe for some robust interrogation.

  5. I actually think Brown has a point here. We have a huge muslim population in Britain. We need to be careful. Some of us, like myself, live and work amongst muslims.
I'd hazard a guess that some of them hold fairly right wing views on abortion and homosexuals, but then some of my less polite, white co-workers, hold fairly bigotted views on gays and non-whites.
I doubt people like wilders have many dealings with muslims. They only see the results of the tension they help brew from their television screens in an insulated middle class suburb; it's the working classes (white and non-white) who will bear the brunt if this racial tension continues down its ugly path.

  6. More to the point Anon a goodly proportion of the large British Muslim population, if we cross it, wants to punch our f.....g heads in. Hence the establishments lunacy. They appear to be running scared of a situation that should be firmly resolved, now.

  7. Well, Nige, there you have it: anonymous provides the glimpse of the future. We have a huge muslim population in Britain. We need to be careful. You'd best be careful, Nige. The thought police will be coming for you in time, for brewing tension. Hate crimes and all that.

BTW, do you know when was the last time the British government denied entrance to a sitting parliamentarian?

(N.B. This is not an endorsement of Wilders's politics)

  8. I don't Randy - if it's ever happened before? - but that is a very very important element in this grisly farce.
